At the end of every year, we wait patiently to see what the experts at Pantone predict will be the next big color, and oh boy, you’re in for a treat. The company recently released its 2019 Color of the Year, and we’re already head over heels for the vivacious new shade: Living Coral.

This coral hue is a lovely orangey-pink that brings a warm, energizing feel to any space. Pantone describes the shade as a “nurturing” color that appears frequently in both nature and on social media, which is what makes it so special.

“With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Using Coral at Home

This type of color is often used alongside teal in tropical-inspired decor, but there are plenty of other ways you can bring Living Coral into your life. “A vivacious coral can infuse new energy into your home,” says Behr color expert Erika Woelfel, “It’s a great accent color for a welcoming front door or piece of exterior furniture.”

This playful pink hue plays well with others, too. “Coral pairs beautifully with acidic yellow and fresh green if you’re going for an energetic color combination,” says Woelfel. “Navy blue and shades of warm, velvety taupe lend coral a sophisticated look.”
