Coconut Jumbles Cocoa Nib Brittle

Any Food52 member is welcome to help us test our Community Pick candidates, so go call dibs on the recipe you'd like to test in the comments section below! We'd love to see some new testers in the mix. Don't forget to email us your notes (about 100 words) to [email protected] by next Tuesday at 5pm (EST).

We'll collect your comments, decide the official list of Community Picks and publish your evaluation in the headnote if the recipe is selected as a Community Pick (with credit, of course!). And even if the recipe you test isn't chosen as a Community Pick, please feel free to leave your testing notes in the recipe's comments section. Constructive criticism is always encouraged!

Good heavens! This is a you snooze you loose sort of group isn't it?! It's probably better for me not to be testing anything, since the last thing I need this weekend is a sugar high. Thanks Niknud or HLA - whichever of you actually winds up making them! - for testing my cookies!

Hmm, you could use apples or pears (with less water and less cooking time), but it won't turn pink and won't be as thick, and I can't guarantee that it would end up well, so I'm not sure.....

hardlikearmour November 3, 2011
They sort of look like a hybrid between a yellow apple and a pear.

Niknud November 3, 2011
Thanks, hla! Keep me posted - I'll check back in a bit! Mind uploading a picture of a quince at some point so I don't feel so foolish again....at least as far as this is concerned.

Niknud, I need to go to the grocery today, and if they have quinces (which is a possibility as the grocer I use generally does carry them in season) I will make the kolacky and you can do the serinakaker. I'll report back in a couple of hours!

Sorry I missed that hardlikearmour had already called them, we're having some tech difficulties with comments today. Apologies
And Niknud, quince kolacky are still available if you can get your hands on some quince.

Dabblings November 3, 2011
Thanks for testing my recipe. I hope you like them as much as we do :)

Not sure the elusive fruit is available in my neck of the woods. Ok, ok, I admit...I've never laid eyes on a quince before and wouldn't recognize one if it bit me in the tush. Wouldn't want to substitute anything since it's such a big part of the recipe. They sound delicious, but if I can't lay hands on the key ingredient I should probably pass. Unless, of course VanessaS gives the green light for a substitute (and can suggest one!). :)
