Brownsville Farm

We've done a lot of cool things together, right? We've made a cookbook. We've made an iPad app (more on this soon!), and we've helped Detroit Dirt with a composting project. We'd like to do more on-the-ground projects and there's one that we'd love to see the FOOD52 community get behind. Here in Brownsville, New York City, Nora Painten (that's her above), wants to transform this scrappy lot into a school garden for the children attending PS 323.

While working for Slow Food NYC this summer, Nora spotted the lot and discovered that it was owned by the city. She's done the very hard work of receiving permission from Green Thumb, Grow NYC, and the support of PS 323 to incorporate the garden into their class curriculum. Now all she needs is for us to help her meet her goal on Kickstarter -- she's almost there -- and help her get the project under way. This winter, she'd like to add a water system to the lot. Then she'll add raised beds and build a sturdy fence and an outdoor classroom. It's an all-hands-on-deck project -- woodworkers, architects, gardeners, and designers are welcome.
