The Ethicality of Eating Meat

March 22, 2012

The New York Times is "Calling All Carnivores" to make their case for the ethicality of eating meat. In recent years, when vegetables and legumes have shown and meat has been pushed aside as the ethical outcast, The New York Times is giving meat lovers a chance to respond before a panel of influential thinkers including Peter Singer, Michael Pollan, Mark Bittman, Jonathan Safran Foer and Andrew Light. The rules of the game stress that this is not a chance to explain why you love meat or that meat is just part of our culture, but rather an opportunity to discuss why it's ethical to eat meat.

So, what are your thoughts on the subject? Do you believe it is ethical to eat meat? Tell us your thoughts below.

I'm Laura Loesch-Quintin, a food writer and photographer, as well as the voice behind the recipe blog gourmette•nyc. Originally from Philadelphia, I was raised in a French-American household where vinaigrette, cornichons, and clafoutis were (and still are) staples. When not cooking, writing, or photographing, I can usually be found exploring the food markets of New York City.

I eat meat because whos to say plants dont have feelings? It is BECAUSE they are such a different type of organism, that we really cant make any assumptions about them.

I also try to eat humanely raised and slaughtered meat where i can.

I also think it is healthy to eat meat-we are omnivores afterall! meat is part of a complete diet for us....
