We’ve got a crush.
You see, there’s this cake. It’s chocolate; it’s sexy; it’s exotic. When it sat on our office table, we couldn’t stop staring at it, couldn’t stop thinking about it, couldn’t stop reaching for it with our knives and cutting ourselves hunks of it, and then, later, scooping it up with our fingers.
The Thai Green Curry Cake (pictured above) was dreamt up by raspberryeggplant, a cook with a palate we stand behind -- and envy. A lifelong vegetarian (but not a “preachy” one), she leans towards the spice-based cuisines of South India and Thailand -- even, boldly, in her desserts. The result? Food that demands attention. Lots of it.
Raspberryeggplant’s other desserts -- like her Cardamom and Pistachio Shortbread Cookies and Mango Lassi Cupcakes, for instance -- toe the same line between sweet and spice, between the classic and the creative. But sugar and chocolate -- even with curry! -- doesn’t make her melt. She prefers savory dishes, ones that she luckily shares with us: Cardamom-Scented Shortcut Dal Makhani, White Bean, Kale, and Butternut Squash Pizza, and Risotto with Asparagus, Peas, Parsley, and Lemon, among others. No matter what the occasion, this is food that bats its eyelashes at you, that gives you that come-hither smile until you clear your plate. We’re happy to oblige.

What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?
Velveeta. Although technically it is "cheese food product," not food, so I guess the strangest real food I've eaten is durian.
What do you cook when home alone?
I'm lazy and make quesadillas in the microwave or eat random things out of the fridge - a handful of olives, a few spoons of jam, a glass of wine, a chunk of sourdough baguette. I don't like cooking for myself.
Your most treasured kitchen possession:
My violet KitchenAid mixer, which, unfortunately, has been acting up lately.
