Not Your Normal Loaf Cake

May  4, 2012

Here at Food52, we’re into weird loaf cakes. We hope you are, too.

First, we wrote to you about avocados sneaking their way into pound cake batter. Just in case you err on the side of caution with your cake-making, we also found this lovely pistachio one. And now, we bring you hibiscus loaf cake. I think this makes us the resident authority for all things eccentric baked goods. (Also, edible flowers. We’re on top of it.)

Shop the Story

Instead of avocado, this time, elevate a normal loaf cake with hibiscus flowers, steeped in hot water just long enough to release their vibrant, tart flavors. I'd recommend adding this to your list. That’ll give us enough time to find you a new pound cake venture.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.

Yes! It was our pleasure. (As a side note, you should try hibiscus macarons if you haven't already...) Let us know how yours turns out.
