Nothing To Apologize For: Asparagus That Stuns

Sarah of The Yellow House, has a problem we're familiar with: over-apologizing in the kitchen. (We've also been known to say "We're sorry!" one too many times for the types of things that a band of merry, drinking guests are not apt to notice, like a slightly overcooked vegetable or possibly over-spiced curry.) Yes, we all have our problems. Luckily, though, Sarah has also solved a big one for us. Her lovely buckwheat-and-beer blini recipe, loosely based on Martha Stewart's simple buckwheat version, is the perfect appetizer cum blank canvas for all of our spring produce. They're so darn likable, and conveniently adapatable to circumstance — just make a big batch and mix-and-match toppings according to guest's preferences.

This asparagus, crème fraîche, and dill version particularly caught our eye — so pretty! — but just about any spread/vegetable combination would make these little guys shine.

Cassie loves to cook, eat, and then write about it. She can't resist anything with sweet potatoes, but if she had to pick one food for the rest of her life it might be avocado. (She changes her mind a lot.) She also believes that anything will taste better on a tortilla, and that tacos are the premier food of summertime. You can catch her reading Calvin & Hobbes on the stoop of her apartment, or on the roof in her garden. Say hello!
