The World's Most Stylish Candies

Though plenty of our friends suffer from severe Francophilia, we're endlessly obsessed with the Swedes. For whatever reason, the Scandinavian nation just appears so stylish, so perfectly designed to our rough American eyes. They've got fashion down pat and furniture made simple, so it's no surprise that Stockholm is home to what has to be the most stylish candy shop in the world: Pärlans.

Pärlans not only uses a recipe from the 1930's and 1940's to make their handmade and handwrapped sweets, it also extends the aesthetics of those decades into everything they do. "We all came from swing dancing, the people who work here and the girl who started it," explains a perfectly-coiffed Candy Maker in a short video. "Many of us are very into quality rather than quantity and it's easy, when you are looking for quality to look backwards in time, because quality of everything has really gone a bit downhill."

I'm a writer/editor based out of Somerville, Massachusetts. In addition to blogging for Food 52, I also work as the community manager of MSN's Postbox Boston and as the editor of Milkshake.com. I'm obsessed with food, art and anything that combines the two. My favorite recipes are simple and fresh (like beet salad with arugula and goat cheese). When I'm not working or cooking, I can be found on my hands and knees in the backyard, trying to coax carrots out of the dirt.
