Fruit Takes to the Grill

We've never been traditionalists when it comes to grilling. If you're still just grilling meat, you're missing out! One of our favorite options: fruit. Which is why we were thrilled to see that our friends over at The Washington Post came up with the ultimate guide to grilling summer fruit. They'll have you running from the fruit stand to the grill all summer long.

They start with pineapple (the "gateway grill fruit") but cover all the bases, proving that everything from strawberries and blueberries (just use a vegetable grilling basket) to plantains, peaches, and watermelon do great with a touch of fire. Even citrus fruits like orange, lemon and grapefruit, flash grilled in slices, take well to the grill. The author goes so far as to put together a grilled lemon lemonade, which sounds a little out there to us. Then again, if it's anything like the grilled fruit we've had before, we'll give it a shot!

I add fruit (pineapple and peaches) to all my shish-ka-bobs and also just love grilled fruit in salads and salsas. Grilled fruit is a good thing.
