Ortiz is a very good lable and you can get into the upper price realms if you purchase "ventresca" which is the Spanish equivalent of toro. I like As Do Mar too. Basically what I look for are firm pieces of tuna flesh that have been tinned or jarred in olive oil. Flott is a good Italian label. You can find Genova brand at many supermarkets but if you look at the label closely you'll see that it's a sideline for Chicken of the Sea. Yes, really. A lot of product is packaged with Italian sounding names but then turn out to be from someplace else.

Whole Foods carries some really great varieties that are packed in oil and bottled in a glass jar. Unfortunately, I can't think of the name, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of the bottled varieties there.

I live in Montana, and also have strong thoughts about shopping locally. At Cost Plus World Market I get a brand called Tonnino. There are many others available on Amazon. Are they "better" than Tonnino? Possibly. But when I want a good sandwich or salad, I tend to want it today, not a few days from now. Too, while World Market is indeed a national chain, the local store employs local people. I pick up a half dozen cans at a time so I always have it on hand. I hope this helps you.
