I need a sherry wine vinegar. What can I substitute

Red wine vinegar should work fine as a substitute.

In addition a "commercial" red balsamic would work too. Investing in a good Spanish sherry (jerez)vinegar to keep as a pantry item is a very handy thing to have nearby. I like the older ones such as Cepa Vieja---"reserva".
