That carrot ginger dressing is definitely ubiquitous and a good guess! I would also venture to guess it might be the goma-ae salad of spinach with a sesame dressing. We do a version of that quite often: Toast about 2 T sesame seeds, grind them with 2 T sugar in mortar and pestle and stir in about 1 T soy sauce. Sometimes we add a bit of sesame oil and brown rice vinegar or a touch of mirin. It is great on all sorts of green vegetables and really quick and easy.

There are so many Japanese salads that are green, what is your main ingredient?

Thanks for the link, Lindsay-Jean. I've been trying similar recipes without finding 'it' -- so everything looks right for this one. Pecosa, hope this is what you want!

Depending on what exactly you're looking for, there are ideas for Japanese-inspired salads on this thread: https://food52.com/hotline/4999-japanese-inspired-green-salad-ideas. Or if you're thinking of lettuce topped with carrot ginger dressing, I like Smitten Kitchen's dressing recipe: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2010/04/avocado-salad-with-carrot-ginger-dressing/
