Has anyone tried making these with rum? Would a dark rum work ok as a substitute for moonshine?

Rum should be fine. In the recipe comments, the author notes that you can use any type of alcohol --"We use a corn whiskey (called moonshine) made by Kings County Distillery. Any other alcohol can be substituted; we've loved whiskey, Lillet Blanc, brandy, etcetera."
