One-Pot Black Rice with Carrots and Walnuts:

I'm getting ready to try this recipe and need a clarification about step 3. Do the carrots need to be boiled separately in salted water, or should they be added to the black rice (which I assume to be the same as the chinese forbidden / purple rice) that has been cooking from step 2. Thanks so much

correction: So the carrots is cooked with the rice (after rice? has been boiling for 30 min.), removed and place on top after the rice is done and finished in the oven, with the walnuts.
Did you try to prepare the recipe yet?

What I read from the recipe is to (Step 3#) After water has been boiling for half hour, add carrots. Let cook for 20 minutes, then submerge in ice bath; proceed with recipe and the place the cooled, boiled carrots on top of the rice (Step 5)
5. When rice is nearly finished, add 1/2 cup walnuts and 2 tbsp olive oil. Stir and let cook for another five minutes.
6. Set oven to broil.
7. Place carrots on top of rice mixture, and sprinkle with remaining walnuts.

So the rice is cooked with the rice, removed and place on top after the rice is done and finished in the oven, with the walnuts.

Hi Panfusine! I don't know the answer but I have both black and purple/forbidden rice - they actually are different but I don't see any reason not to use the purple stuff ...
