Holiday Countdown Recipe Swap

Hello Food52 community!
Now that the holidays (and the Secret Holiday Swap 2014) are in full swing, I wanted to countdown to the holidays and give the gift that keeps on giving: sharing your tried and true, most-loved family recipes.

We've always made cinnamon raisin bread or a fruit cake. Since I went vegan recently, I've had to make some adjustments to the recipes. I am going to try a vegan cinnamon bread this year and see how it goes.

That sounds like a great Christmas morning breakfast...warm, toasty cinnamon raisin bread and family - that's almost part of the definition of "Holiday". Let me know how the vegan version turns out!

We have a big family and generally follow the tune of the host/esses. One constant is my mother's (bless her) James Beard recipe for a raw cranberry, orange, Cointreau relish. Goes with beef, pork or fowl. It's a beautiful red and orange jewel-toned dish.

Susan W - Bagpipes?! Awesome. I have family who play Uilleann pipes (Irish, smaller bagpipes) so I have an understanding of how difficult the instrument is. Your neighbors should be paying for the concert! Does he play Christmas carols?

He plays haunting Irish music and something Christmas for my 87 yo mom. He doesn't play for long. Usually one of each. Always something to look forward to. :)

We've had the same thing for Christmas dinner with our small family and another family for many years at my Mom's house in San Diego. Grass fed aged prime rib, Julia's creamed onions from the recipe published in the San Diego Union in the late seventies, goat cheese Yorkshire pudding from Silver Pallet and something orange and something green. Dessert changes and the wine collected by 3 different households is always extraordinary.

My brother builds a huge fire in the game room where football is on tv and many games of pool are played. We ply Thomas with enough wine so he finally agrees to play the accordion outside.

Good times for sure.

Pegreen, the accordion playing always thrills everyone. He plays very beautiful music. The neighbors all hear it (they have heard him for years, so it's become their tradition as well) and clap and cheer when he's finished. It's lovely.

I'm a Dodo bird. Thomas' mom just corrected me...he plays the bagpipes, not the accordion. I just love it when I mix up my nouns. :)

Union Square Cafe Brussels Sprout Hash (recipe on this site), a vegetarian main for my son and neice, pie or bread pudding. I love the maple pecan pie on this site and the cranberry ginger pear pie. Home made croissants or Danish pastry on Christmas morning.
