This sounds not like a physical possibility question (of course you can add apples on top of a Chocolate Amazon cake) but like a taste/preference one (do you like apples & chocolate? do you have extra apples around you want to use up?). My preference is no; I like berries and stone fruits (peaches et al) more with chocolate than I do apples. But if you decide to go ahead and make it that way, there are a few methods to consider:
1) made an upside down cake, putting apple slices or wedges at the bottom of a cake pan, then cake mixture, bake, cool, invert
2) bake apples on top of cake
3) bake cake as in original recipe, then serve with an optional garnish of roasted or stewed apples.
If you decide NOT to make the chocolate cake with the apples, but still have some on hand to use up, consider Heavenly Apple Cake (here):
