1) Shoot This Publisher!! and 2) Fav Thai Cookbooks?

I am usually in the admiring camp when it comes to (well designed) cookbooks, but I feel I have to WARN YOU about this: If anyone is considering buying a Thai cookbook by David Thompson, highly regarded one-Michelin star chef, you'd better have started weight training years ago. OMG!! TenSpeedPress should be SHOT. Each of these, Thai Street Food and Thai Food, have to weigh at least ten pounds each. Ridiculous. The recipe fonts are tiny and wispy. They might contain the most authentic and detailed Thai recipes ever, but at this point, I don't care! Back to the library they are going, and I wish i could apologize to every librarian along the chain. Whew.

As to 2)- what Thai cookbooks should i seek, aside from the IACP -awarded It Rains Fishes? Thx so much.

Hot Sour Salty Sweet by Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duty is isn't all Thai, but it's wonderful. It covers all of Southeast Asia in the villages along the Mekong river. The stories are heartfelt and charming and the recipes are fabulous. They have an amazing fusion salad on this site that is probably the best salad I have ever eaten.

Here's their salad. It prompted me to buy the book.

I don't have a favorite, and am definitely a beginner in cooking Thai food at home, but have found this one helpful:
http://shesimmers.com/cookbook
http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Thai-Food-Classic-Recipes/dp/1607745232/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1454341786&sr=1-1&keywords=simple+thai+food+classic+recipes+from+the+thai+home+kitchen

And it's only 236 pp.
Have a look at your local library.

I got this book for Christmas and I love it so far. http://www.amazon.com/Thailand-The-Cookbook-Jean-Pierre-Gabriel/dp/071486529X It comes in at 4 lbs of book but it is well worth it.
