I add it to my chicken broth with other ingredients like garlic, and ginger to make a strong broth and sip it when I'm not feeling well. I wear gloves and old shirt and work with it carefully because it stains everything it touches. The taste as mentioned by other is far superior to powder.
Tumeric tea! I make ginger 'tea' all the time, so this sounds right up my culinary alley.
I use a lot of black pepper in my cooking, and will remember to pair it with turmeric in the future.
Thank you again. Very helpful!
After I peel it, I slice it into long matchsticks which I then pickle in vinegar. When I have dinner I make simple salads with sliced tomatoes, sliced red onions, sprinkles for ground cumin and cilantro, salt, a sprinkling of the pickle vinegar (or lemon) and a sprinkling of the turmeric sticks. Awesome for fightening off a cold.
Also I use it when making a chicken soup. Makes it a beautiful golden color. Also remember to use black pepper whenever you use turmeric to multiply its healing power.
If you have access to fresh turmeric, it is an absolute must try - a completely different flavor from powder. It will change your world forever :) You can also steep it in hot water and then serve chilled, it is a lovely tea.
You can use fresh like you use the powder. I inch of fresh equals 1 teaspoon powder. Buy it firm like ginger. Fresh tastes fresher and avoids that dusky or bitter taste you can get with the powder. Peel or don't it is up to you. Think ginger.
