Is there a difference between a Top Sirloin Roast and a Top Sirloin Steak?

I bought a Top Sirloin Roast (already tied up) and am wondering if it is the same thing as a Top Sirloin Steak.
Totally unfamiliar with this cut (am slowly cooking my way through the animal)... I've read that a Top Sirloin Steak is the same thing as a Strip Steak - but what I have on my hands just seems WAY too big to be a strip steak!

You can either cut it into steaks or roast it whole as..well..a roast. I've bought rib roasts and sliced them into steaks. Same with New York roasts (aka strip roasts).

Phil is correct in that sirloin and strips are close to each other, but are different. Sirloin has a lot of flavor, but the strip is a little more tender. I like them both.

marmar, I might not have been clear in my answer so let me expand.... Top sirloin roast and top sirloin steak come from the same muscle, and if you slice the roast into slices of desired thickness, you should end up with steaks.

I agree with Queen Sashy, As far as top sirloin steak and strip steak go, The strip is a better quality and comes from near the sirloin. I am not an expert but the strip as far as I'm concerned is better. Here is a link to help you find your way around the cow: https://www.certifiedangusbeef.com/cuts/retailbeefcuts.php
Good Luck

Phil, the questioner has a top sirloin roast. not a steak. I agree with you about the strip steak, but this was not a steak question.

This IS a steak question... Here is the original question repeated:

Is there a difference between a Top Sirloin Roast and a Top Sirloin Steak?

What it was not about...was a question about strip steak.

No dear, they are NOT the same. A sirloin steak looks like a steak, is shaped like a steak, and you cook it like a steak.
A Top Sirloin Roast is a Roast of beef. You cook it like a roast. My mom made it often, roasted it in a 350 degree oven on a bed of onions and celery. I looked through the recipes in the section labeled "Roast Beef" here of Food52 and came up with these recipes that might work with your Top Sirloin Roast: https://food52.com/recipes/65922-brasato-al-barolo-piedmont-style-pot-roast

Hmm... Roast and steak should be the same, there should be no difference. They both come from the same "muscle" but the roast is intended to be cooked whole, and a steak is a slice from the roast.
