Not food but maybe a fun idea if it is not too late to inform your guests. We are having an eclipse picnic lunch at work on Monday. Dress code-- White and black.

Have you decided on a menu? Do let us know how it goes.
Thousands have arrived in our state (Oregon) for the eclipse. Traffic is a nightmare! Staying home and away from it all. I'll watch it on TV 😎.

Rick Stein (the British seafood chef) did a solar eclipse menu at his restaurant years ago. You can probably find the whole menu online somewhere but I remember he did squid or cuttlefish ink risotto or pasta for one course - he wanted everything black.

Sunchokes (aka Jerusalem artichokes)...for when the sun reappears, of course.

Thought of another idea...Black Bean Dip (line a small bowl with plastic wrap, press dip into bowl, chill to firm) Remove from fridge right before serving, turn dip with plastic onto serving platter. Remove plastic and pipe sour cream around the base of dip (now it resembles the Eclipse!) serve with corn and blue chips,

I saw an idea for 'rocket dogs' (as in space rocket). Hot dogs wrapped in pastry on a stick. Kids might like them.
Music - You are the sunshine of my ??love?? - Stevie wonder / Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone - Bill Withers??? / You are my sunshine my only sunshine - traditional not sure who / Fly me to the moon - Frank Sinatra / Moon River - Andy Williams. Oldies I know, but hey!

The news had a featured story about Eclipse donuts...chocolate glazed with a white outside edge.
Wonder if Eclipse brand gum is doing anything special?

The Moonpie was invented by the request of miners wives near Coal Creek, East Tennessee as a desert to fit in the round lunch pail miners carried. Little Debbie Bakeries in Chattanooga picked it up. Also Chattanooga is the home of Royal Crown Cola. Because early soda based fountain drinks often contained cocaine, they were a "dope".

So serve a chocolate Moonpie and a RC Cola or a vanilla "Moonpie and a Big Orange Dope" (Nehi Orange) which was most popular here in East Tennessee and a local colloquialism

Music?
Anything from 1957 (Sputnik launch) to and including 1969 (first moonwalk), especially Abbey Road and Here Comes the Sun.

Start with swiss cheese slices (the more holes, the better) use a star cookie cutter and punch out Swiss cheese stars. Serve on rye bread stars, again using the cookie cutter.
Or make a Man in the Moon pizza face. Remember the Dean Martin song? "When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's amore!"

some kind of moonshine cocktail ;)

-a mini wheel of cheese (the moon is made of cheese, right?)
- half-moon hand pies or empanadas, or cresent rolls.

Not as good as the moonshine idea, but also:
Silver tequila
