Wow, 5 years later and I’m in the same predicament. Called for 1/3 cup of butter and I put in 2/3. Dog! Glad to see this and know it won’t be a total flop! Thanks!

I accidentally did this with a batch of cinnamon rolls last night. I used this recipe https://www.ambitiouskitchen.com/best-cinnamon-rolls/ that calls for a 1/4 cup butter but I accidentally put in a whole stick. They rose okay and baked okay! They were just a little more dense/soggy than normal

So after doubling the butter in a cinnamon roll recipe, I came across this thread.

Guys if you make the same mistake, you will be fine. Just let them rise a little longer than normal, preferably overnight.

Mine came out delicious.

Ha! here i am two years after you and i just realized i did the same thing, so I hit up google and found this answer. I set aside a stick of butter for the filling and accidentally put it in the dough. It is rising slowly but it is rising, I am glad to see that it just may turn out great. Whew! I didn't realize what I'd dine until i was getting ready to make the filling and couldn't find the stick of butter i set aside - LOL

Same thing here. The recipe called for 1/3 butter, accidentally put the whole stick in in a rush. The dough looked fine, though, so I just hope it’ll work out.

I bet they'll be just fine -- 2/3 cup butter per 3 1/2 cups flour is far lower butter to flour ratio than a brioche recipe.

Did a test batch and they are really good. The dudes at the frat I cook for are going to be over the moon. Thanks for your help. I almost tossed the dough.

FOR DOUGH
1/4 oz yeast
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup scalded milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/2 cups flour

It seems to be raising so far, but I suck at baking so I never do it and have no basis for comparison.

Hi Kala, can you share the recipe? That might help folks share more informed answers. If the dough needs to rise (it's yeast-raised, right?), I would give it a little time and see how it progresses. If it seems particularly slow/resistant, then the extra butter may be holding it back. Am curious to hear how it turns out!
