A question about a recipe: Fennel Honey Cake

I have a question about the recipe "Fennel Honey Cake" from Food52. Is raw sugar necessary or is granulated sugar acceptable to use?

I haven't made this recipe, but you should be able to substitute granulated white sugar without an issue. You may want to either add a small amount of molasses or use a little brown sugar in place of some of the raw sugar to get the flavor more similar to raw sugar.
