Colored sprinkles on powdered sugar icing run no matter how I store them or how long I leave out before storying.

I usually sprinkle with colored nonpariels or colored sugar and then I let sit for sometimes six hours before storing. No matter what I store them in (cookie tin, cover with foil, plastic container, etc. the next day the colors from the sprinkles run and the icing begins to get wet. Any suggestions?

Perhaps you have a humid climate, or maybe there is a lot of liquid in your frosting recipe. If you are using a buttercream frosting, add 1/2 tsp cornstarch per cup of powdered sugar to help thicken the frosting. Mix it with 2 tsp of milk till well blended and then mix it into the frosting. You can use up to 1 tsp per cup of sugar, but more than that may effect the taste. If your recipe already adds extra cornstarch, try reducing the amount of liquid.
