I like my Salter Bamboo scale. It is especially great for scaling bread dough because the bamboo surface is pourous like a bakers' bench and the dough sticks much less than to a plastic, metal, or glass scale. The large illuminated display is great too. My only complaint is that it uses expensive little CR2032 button batteries instead of AAA. The price is good at ~$25 in most stores.
I also love my OXO scale. I use it all the time. I previously had a small Escali model. The switch to shift from lb to metric was on the underside and was a little difficult to manoeuver.
Not the least expensive scale around, but I truly LOVE my OXO scales. There are 2 models, a small one that weights up to 5 pounds (around $25-30) and a larger one that weighs up to 11 pounds (around $50). I love them because they are accurate; you can change the display to weigh in pounds or grams; you can tare out (set back to zero) the weight of a mixing bowl, or between ingredients and the display bar in front can easilyvbe pulled out so it isn't hidden beneath a large bowl. One of my most useful kitchen tools.
I have an Escali scale that I bought from Groupon for $16. It is about 10 years old and still working well. There are plenty of affordable baking scales in the $15-$20 range, sold almost everywhere. I suggest getting one that you can weigh with a large bowl and still see the display.
