This Rye Old Fashioned is emblematic of the classic spirit to sugar to bitters ratio. Play around with your own permutations of each for drinks that are unique to your taste yet will stand the test of time.
Thoroughly soak a Demerara sugar cube with aromatic bitters and mash up in the bottom of a pint glass. Fill the glass with ice before pouring in the rye whiskey of your choice. Stir gently in a circular motion for 14 seconds. Strain the cocktail into a tumbler containing one extra large chunk of ice. Spritz with an orange peel and use as garnish.
