'Marcella sauce', in one form or another, is a staple of Food52er kitchens. This version, from our Partnerships Editor Samantha Weiss Hills, is of the a chunky, non-tomato season type: One 28-ounce can of fire-roasted tomatoes, one yellow onion peeled and halved, half a stick of butter, and some salt. All playing nicely together in a medium saucepan on a low, steady simmer for 45 mins or so. A tip on the onions: They get soft enough that you can snip them into pieces with kitchen shears to match the tomato pieces before serving on top of pasta.
