Wanna know how to upgrade a basic sandwich? Toast your bread in bacon grease, as I did with my B.A.T. (bacon, avocado & tomato...had no lettuce in the fridge). Cooked the bacon in my cast iron skillet, then fried the bread in the grease. Also, note to self: don't ever add fennel fronds to this sandwich. What was I thinking? #whatwouldjenniedo

I worked for an old school Austrian chef who would stroll into the walk-in some mornings and scoop up duck fat with a butter knife and spread it onto a very hearty whole grain Austrian bread. I decided I had to try it one day and I'll be damned if it wasn't a great combination.
