Two (not)recipes: 1. Sun-warmed berries right off the vine. 2. Lavender strawberry shortcake
1. Spend the year muddling through this parenting thing with no clue what you're doing. Take your kid to a berry farm. Sit in awe as she grabs berry after berry, experiencing the profound taste of a strawberry warmed by the sun. Decide that if you can give her more of those kinds of moments, she'll be ok.
2. Make some shortcakes (I like the Food52/James Beard ones with sieved hard-boiled egg yolks). Macerate the strawberries in lavender sugar (easy to make--mix some lavender flowers in sugar, let sit). Make some whipped cream. Have it all for dinner. Don't even think about making a salad to go with it. You do this once a year.
