Summer Crisp: Cut into chunks (don't bother peeling) peaches and nectarines. Toss with just-picked blueberries, a heaping tablespoon of sugar, and a touch of lemon zest. Put into a well-buttered baking dish.
In a medium bowl, mix together 2 heaping tablespoons each of whole wheat flour, brown sugar, wheat germ, and quick oats. Sprinkle on a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Cut 2 ounces of cold butter into tiny cubes; toss with the other topping ingredients, along with a big handful of chopped toasted nuts. Sprinkle over the fruit. Bake at 400° for 30 - 36 minutes. Serve with a smile - and a small jug of heavy cream on the side. ;o)
