My attempt at steaming sticky rice without soaking it first turned it into complete and utter mush. A mess, yes, but also an opportunity.

Since I was already at a porridge-like consistency, I seasoned the rice with some apple cider vinegar and mirin and toasted sesame seeds before topping it with other things that would provide texture: chopped cucumber, cilantro, green onion, some marinated shiitake mushrooms (I rehydrated dried ones, then squeezed the water out and marinated with soy sauce, kecap manis, and rice vinegar), and furikake.
