Wonderbag on Food52

New York, NY
Wonderbag is a non-profit founded by South African Sarah Collins in 2008 based on a technique her grandmother (like generations of grandmothers around the world) employed to save energy and money: She would bring food to a boil, then wrap it in towels to let it slow-cook in the residual heat. The Wonderbag has done wonders: Using a Wonderbag can decrease indoor air pollution by 60%. Women, who do the vast majority of open fire cooking, save time, fuel, and water, are empowered to take on other work and increase their daily income. Girls have more time to go to school. And we can all breathe just a little bit easier.
