When an Italian confectioner has been handmaking chocolate for nearly 150 years, it’s got to be onto something. And Silviano Venchi certainly was when he started Venchi in 1878: At 20 years old, he spent all his savings on two bronze cauldrons and began experimenting with chocolate. Soon he would open Venchi Spa, dubbed “the most elegant chocolate shop in Piedmont.” And now? You can sample a whole medley of flavors in over 70 countries around the world, all still handmade right in Italy.
