Sugar is better with a little salt.

What's better than caramel? Salted caramel!

This particular sauce is made from goat's milk which adds a subtle tanginess that balances out the rich sweetness of caramel. It's creamy and very, very luxurious. We love it with ice cream, fruit, and cheeses -- and to be honest, straight from the jar.

The set is extra fun because it's a hands-on -- it includes one jar of original caramel sauce and one tin of hand-harvested finishing salt from Jacobsen Salt Co. (one of our longtime Food52 merchants) -- sprinkle the salt flakes on the caramel (we let you do it yourself because that means we all get caramel precisely as salty as we like it.) We're all about you listening to your own good taste.

Meet the Maker

Fat Toad Farm

Brookfield, VT
Husband and wife team Steve Reid and Judith Irving have spent the last seven years building a high-quality herd of Alpine milking goats and perfecting the art of caramel making. From 54 goats, they make their goat's milk caramel (also called Cajeta) -- they're one of the very first producers of artisanal Cajeta in the United States. It's a small-batch, family-run operation, and every jar is made with care.
