An apron with edge.

Stitched from rare heavy Italian chambray, this sturdy apron made exclusively for Food52 incorporates the finished selvage edge of the fabric (a sign of quality chambray) into the design, as piping along the sides, and on pockets featuring a light blue stripe that brings out lighter tones in the material. The chambray is ultra-durable but soft, and will wear elegantly with frequent use and wash like a pair of favorite jeans; the long straps are made from a soft gray cotton that's also stitched onto pockets to create handy towel loops. Use it to protect against any mess and watch yourself fall in love.

Meet the Maker

Hedley and Bennett

Los Angeles, CA
While working in various restaurants throughout Los Angeles, founder Ellen Bennett noticed the mundane and stale look of the American kitchen uniforms. What started as an experiment for one of her chef’s kitchens turned into a nationwide trend of culinary professionals donning these thoughtfully and well constructed aprons. Each product is handmade in Los Angeles from from start to finish using top grade materials such as American canvas, Japanese selvage denim and European linens. These unique pieces posses a quality as high as the clothes they're meant to protect. Built to last, each fabrication detail has been carefully considered to handle the rigorous daily use experienced in a working kitchen.
