Beautiful but nonfunctional as a striker.

This is a beautiful object, full stop. I've tried two kinds of matches on it now, and all it does is leave colourful streaks on its elegant surfaces - this does not function as a striker for any matches I've found here in the US so far. Maybe glue a striker tape on the side?
