Marseille Soap Flakes
Good, clean, old-fashioned soap.
Soap flakes are something your grandmother, or great-grandmother, might remember using to wash linens and laundry. And today, fans of low-waste, all-natural cleaning products are looking back to soap flakes as a long-lasting, chemical-free alternative to detergents. Fer à Cheval’s soap flakes are made from their iconic Marseille soap. In fact (buckle up), the name “Marseille Soap” is a protected designation—to qualify for this highly-coveted label, your soap has to be made in Provence with natural oils and just a handful of other ingredients: seawater, ash and lye. At Fer à Cheval, it’s a labor-intensive process that takes 10 days and starts with boiling the ingredients in ancient cauldrons overseen by a soap master and team of artisans. So to bring this all back to “soap flakes,” you’ll find zero preservatives, dyes, additives or animal fats in these flakes, making it a biodegradable, certified organic and environmentally friendly alternative to chemical detergents. Plus, it’s allergen-free for even the most sensitive skin.

Care & Notes
To prepare your laundry liquid: Mix 40g of soap flakes with 1L of very hot water and stir well until it jellifies. Store the laundry liquid in an appropriate bottle and shake well before use. With time and exposure to light and humidity, soap may be subject to variations in color and lose volume. It'll stay effective.
Handwash: Mix 50ml of ready-made laundry liquid into 5L of water.
Washing machine: Use 75ml of ready-made laundry liquid for 5kg of laundry, or 100ml for very dirty clothes. For best use, regularly pour a glass of white vinegar into your fabric softener compartment.
