Poterie Renault got its start way back in 1847, when Stanislas Renault first opened his workshop in Argent-sur-Sauldre, France. Five generations and 173 years later, the family was still handcrafting their iconic stoneware from local grey clay. They’ve since had to close up shop—but we’re sure glad we have their timeless salt-glazed pieces to remember them by.

Beautiful design but lacking quality
I ordered two bakers as Christmas gifts and both recipients told me the lids did not fully close. What are the odds that both products contained the same defect? I am embarrassed that I gave defective products to my friends. I expected a higher level of quality from Food52.
