Heirloom Tomatoes

No wonder we like them so much. Tomatoes are, by definition, loaded with umami (or, in less sexy terms, glutamic acid). 

Thanks to this eye-opening tip from BonAppetit.com, we now know all kinds of things we'll announce at dinner parties -- like the difference between heirloom and hybrid varieties, nutritional factoids, how to grow your own and how best to store them (upside down! We're going to pretend that's why we posed them that way for the picture).
