Today: We're gearing up for summer.
The weather is warming up. Pretty soon, school will let out and summer will officially commence. We’ve been thinking a lot about our favorite parts of every June, July, and August. Peach pie, ice cream sundaes, and campfires come to mind -- or maybe you’re looking forward to popsicles, cold glasses of lemonade on the porch, and long wine-filled evenings that stretch out into dusky summer nights.
We love to cook, and we love to gather over food, and we want to do both all summer. On that note, here are a few things on our vacation calendar:
More adventurous grilling
If you tend to stick with the classics when grilling, like burgers and vegetables seasoned simply with salt and pepper, try using a spice blend -- it’s a simple shortcut for introducing inventive flavors that pair well together.
Comfortable outdoor dining
The idea of balmy happy hours on the lawn and picnics in the park is lovely. But the reality often falls short: ants in the potato salad, flimsy paper plates that tip over in your lap, and so on. Some remedies: a pretty net food cover, weighted at the edges to protect your lunch, and eco-friendly compostable plates that are sturdy enough to hold your burger.
How does a rhubarb gin fizz sound? Or a boozed-up lemonade slushie? Spend some time making weather-appropriate beverages, and then serve them from a glass tumbler with a brightly colored rim.
