Grilled Bread with Thyme Pesto and Preserved Lemon Cream

Last year, as many of you will recall, we were really good about digging up great recipes that might have otherwise gone overlooked, and naming a new Wildcard winner (almost) every week. (Remember Lazy Mary's Lemon Tart, Daddy's Carbonara and the Grilled Bread with Thyme Pesto and Preserved Lemon Cream pictured above? All Wildcards.)

We're ramping up our Wildcard testing again and we want to know if there are any amazing recipes you've discovered on food52, ones that haven't necessarily been submitted to any particular contest. Please shout them out in the comments section below and, going forward, you can always email us suggestions at [email protected] as well.

I echo SallyCan's recommendation for the Chocolate Swirl Cinnamon Marshmallows. I have not made them, but I certainly enjoyed the ones that SallyCan made and sent to me last Christmas. In fact (and this is a confession), I hoarded them for myself. Everything else she sent was delicious, as usual, so the other members of my family didn't hold it against me . . . much. ;o)

I just made Midge's Brown Butter and Cheddar Apple Pie...delicious! I'm giving a nod to this recipe being in the new book, as well as drbabs's runner up Red Pepper recipe! Of course, as stated earlier I'm for all the runner-up finalists recipes finding a place in the new cookbook!

Midge October 19, 2010
Does one of Merrill's recipes qualify for a wildcard? I made her choc. chip oatmeal cookies again a few days ago and I'm telling you they are the best cookies ever.

vvvanessa October 16, 2010
i also love rivka's maple yogurt poundcake (and, looking at the comments, i think a lot of other people do, too).

Jennifer Ann's Couscous with Roasted Fennel and Toasted Almonds is one of my all-time favorite food52 recipes.

SallyCan October 14, 2010
I'd recommend thirshfeld's Jose Mae's Hoppin Good Steak Sauce, monkeymom's Chinese American Pork Roast, Paul Joseph's Garam Masala, the Chocolate Swirl Cinnamon Marshmallows, and luvcookbooks' Raised Pork Pie.

luvcookbooks October 14, 2010
Roasted Broccoli with Smoked Paprika and Marcona Almonds, Green Eggs and Ham, Waiting for Bonaparte Muffuletta, Drunken Raspberry and Portly Pear Pie, Sally's S'more's, Homemade Indian Cheese, Millionaire's Shortbread (or something from Merrill's wedding), Watermelon Lemonade, Asparagus and Radish Salad. Just went through my saved recipes. Have made some of them, others I am longing to try.

There are so many great recipes and so much talent in the food52 community and one recipe that I've made a few times now is this:

Of course, there are many more, but I just happened to recall the name of this off the top of my head...more later!!

Summer Corn Soup with Shrimp by sproutedkitchen. Very good and very sophisticated!

drbabs October 13, 2010
I thought both recipes this week (brown bag lunch) were fabulous, and I had trouble deciding between them. I hope you'll make whichever one comes in second a Wildcard.

Midge October 13, 2010
I second drbabs!

AppleAnnie October 12, 2010
I make Erin H's Magical coffee every week, so delicious, it gives me the motivation to get out of bed every morning! Also COLD BREW COFFEE ICE CREAM
By dymnyno is dynamite!! The curried green apple slices are another favorite Food52 recipe.

Oh lordy, there are so many fabulous recipes here - Waverly's My Grandmother's Tomato Bisque is so lovely. I must have had it for lunch once a week all summer long. Sassyradish Pumpkin RIcotta Pancakes, ENunn's Lemony Blueberry Pancakes. Edamame's Fresh Sriracha is amazing -I've made five batches. And that's just off the top of my head!

Thanks for the Challah shout out, monkeymom!

MrsWheelbarrow October 12, 2010
And let's not forget the great sister-stand-off and the non-winning Devils On Hatchback from Helenthenanny - they certainly deserve another chance - unbelievably tasty.

Waverly October 14, 2010
That tomato bisque recipe is from the Weary Epicurean - wow, does that look fantastic. 3 ingredients: tomatoes, butter, and cream.

mariaraynal October 12, 2010
Bogre's Hungarian Meatballs are sensational, as were so many of the Runner Up recipes from last year.

Jennifer A. October 12, 2010
Glutton for Life's grapefruit sorbet - I have made it so many times for company, always to rave reviews (the infusion of mint and ginger into the sorbet are lovely).

Jennifer A. October 12, 2010
sorry! the infusion IS lovely!

monkeymom October 12, 2010
So many good ones. The first that come to mind are AJ's Buttermilk Oatmeal bread and a dash of bitter's Iron Skillet Pizza. I also make MrsW's Challah on a regular basis as well...oh aargersi's Ranchero sauce...yum!

mariaraynal October 12, 2010
Aargersi made me her ranchero sauce the last time I visited her in Austin, and it is wonderful.

aargersi October 12, 2010
The Reubenesque by lastnightsdinner - now that we are coming back around to turkey leftovers ... I probably ate 15 of these last year - SO good!!!!

lapadia October 12, 2010
For the 2nd book - Runners Up for sure

mrslarkin October 11, 2010
lastnightsdinner's Red Hot Onion Rings!! They are ridiculicious.

thirschfeld October 11, 2010
While I was eating dinner I was thinking about this. I stand by my first choice but then these came to mind and they are equal. They are all so good I wouldn't want to choose one if I were deserted on and island, I would eat sand before I chose between these. Pierino's Walking Down the Hall Part 2, AJ's Tamarind Glazed Swordfish, Amanda's Clam, Parsley and Garlic Spaghetti, Beet Root Burgers, and Nainamo Bars.

thirschfeld October 11, 2010
Oh, and if I were on a desert island and had to chose a menu, this might be it.

dymnyno October 11, 2010
There are some many creative ones to choose...including all the Editor's Picks and Runner Ups . It would be great to give some of these a chance to be in the second book.

pierino October 11, 2010
We like this!

SmallKitchCara's Chicken Meatball Tikka Masala is another one that I've used many times since it was posted. The possible variations are endless, as you'll see in my numerous comments. I've used the sauce in other ways, too, but did not have time to post about it. I plan to make this again, with fish, this week.

;o)

AntoniaJames October 11, 2010
Without a doubt, you absolutely must consider thirschfeld's Shredded Pork and Chinese Celery Lo Mein.

It's my favorite recipe from food52, other than my own, of course. And I try at least three or four new recipes from food52 every week. (I keep telling myself I need to start a blog on this . . . . )

You'll see from the comments to it a number of entries discussing how I've used it (again and again). I've made it many times in addition to the few mentioned in the comments. It's excellent!!

Thanks for seeking our input!! ;o)

vvvanessa October 11, 2010
vrunka's deep-fried basil salad. yumma yumma.
