NPR

In case you missed it, Amanda was on The Diane Rehm Show on NPR this morning, discussing her just-released book: The Essential New York Times Cookbook.

You can listen to the full interview here to learn all about the making of the book, plus discussions on crowd-sourcing, surprising culinary trends of the past 150 years (olive oil has been popular longer than you'd think -- sadly, Translucent Pudding didn't have the same longevity), and Amanda's favorite recipes of the 1,000+ that appear in the book.

See what other Food52 readers are saying.

After years of "reading" you and being jealous of Mr. Latte, what a treat to "hear" a voice !

Like so many others, I obsessively clip, paste and copy, download recipes from all over. It's not likely I'll live long enough to try each one once. Worse, the victim/wife regularly reminds me that if she really, really likes something she knows I'll never make it again.

I got in my car yesterday at 11:30 to go to the dentist, and was so excited to hear Food52 on my radio! I just found this site a few days ago and am blown away. Thanks for making my visit to the dentist a little more bearable.

How funny -- glad you found us, and welcome!

This is great to listen to, especially the discussion re: esoteric ingredients/techniques. I think people are drawn to recipes that are manageable (most food52 recipes have an interesting twist, but none require 17 pots and 62 steps). I found the cookbook very accessible (probably because Amanda tested many of them after work!). Personally, am happy to search for an interesting ingredient or two. Less happy when a recipe is a chef creation that belongs in a restaurant, but that's just me...

I share a similar view -- I want recipes that inspire me to get in the kitchen.

What a good, and interesting, interview! The solution to too many cookbooks is more bookshelves!

Wish I'd thought of that line!

Happened to be driving right at that time and turned on the radio and heard most of the show. I like my NYT esoteric.

Though the book is acessible!!

Thanks -- I feel the same. I want a mix of esoteric and accessible, something to suit my every mood.
