DIY Group Project: Rhubarb Preserves in D.C., Boston and Austin

by:
June 17, 2011

In March, we asked you guys to get together -- in person -- and do some rhubarb preserving, then report back to us. Then, a few weeks ago, we told you about our party we threw in Brooklyn.

Now we're bringing you three more DIY rhubarb parties from around the country -- Boston, Austin and D.C. All three came up with some great preparations for their rhubarb. Below is a video the D.C. group made -- check them out in action! Then, browse through the slideshows below to see what they made.

Thanks to everyone for participating so enthusiastically in our crazy plan -- we knew you wouldn't disappoint!

Looking at these slideshows makes me so happy! You guys are the best. Wish I'd been able to go to all of the rhubarb parties! (P.s. Rhubarb brandy: genius)

It looks like everyone had a great time. I wish I could've joined in. Maybe next time!!

Oh, would have loved to be there. Oui Chef. Oui Chefs.

Is there a more agreeable way to spend an afternoon than chopping and stirring and chatting through several batches of pickles and preserves? And aargersi is an amazing hostess with an abundant garden and a great cook's kitchen - our grilled pizza was in a class by itself.

So true! I even tried to duplicate that pizza the next week so my husband could taste it! It was good, but not as good as Abbie's!

It was so fun and we will do it again for sure! Hey DC-ers - our pickles turned super mushy so we chopped them into relish - did yours stay crisp? Where did we go wrong?

So sorry I could not join you! Btw my lacto-fermented diced rhubarb pickles worked out really well. They were never cooked, but of course are just refrigerator pickles.

So great to see all of these! Thanks for sharing the images. It helps give those of us who could not get together a sense of being there. Fun to see members we haven't yet met, as well as friends we have. Baby Henry fits right in! Love those DC rhubarb pickle stalks.

Wow all of these parties looked like so much fun! I wish I could've come to all of them. Baby Henry is adorable by the way! I love the onesie with the milk and cookies on it.
