Kickstarter Love: Stu's Bloody Mary Mix

May 24, 2012

Each week in Kickstarter Love, Feed52 will feature a Kickstarter project that focuses on food and the community. Basically, it’s about cool people doing cool things with food. In the first installment, we bring you Bloody Marys.

For Rudi and Stu, the pioneers of Stu’s Bloody Mary Mix, it all started, as most cool things do, with pickles. Their effort to produce the best, local pickles landed them with two things: a full-blown company, and a whole lot of pickle juice.

They did what any reasonable company would when life handed them surplus pickle brine: they looked to cocktails. Specifically, the making of genius cocktail concentrates. Stu’s Bloody Mary Concentrate combines their pickle brine, along with a slew of other local ingredients (all of them vegan), to make a round, spicy blend perfect for your brunch cocktail.

It’s not just about a drink, though: by backing this project, you’d help them achieve their goals of settling into a new workspace. It'd be a space big enough for them to grind their chiles and produce their concentrate in, but also big enough to house a community space in which other startups can thrive, too.

And while community betterment is the main reward for a donation, they offer a few others, as well. For a pledge of 1 dollar, “you’ll get a fat kiss from Rudi and a sticker from Stu.” For 25, they’ll happily send you two jars of concentrate, with love, to your doorstep. It’s helping the community, and foolproof brunch drinks. Just add the tomato juice.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.
