Using Wine, Top to Bottom

June  7, 2012

Wine has come up a lot lately. From what to do with leftovers to what to do with leftover bottles, we’ve sufficiently repurposed your evening drink. Now it’s time to bring everything together.

This is like nose-to-tail cooking, but with wine: here’s how to get every possible use out of that Cabernet you bought on your way home. (Don’t get us wrong - just drinking it is a fine and highly encouraged use all on its own.)

1. How to save the wine you didn’t drink (if there is any).

2. What to do with wine that is too old to both drink and cook with (again, if there is any).

3. A genius task for your now-empty wine bottle.

4. And - this might be our new favorite - how to fashion a garden out of an old wine box. Your urban garden awaits.

Now, if you still have wine after you've done all of these things, we're out of ideas. You'll just have to drink more.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.
