Behind the Scenes

Thank you, Kitchen Butterfly!

By • June 27, 2012 • 13 Comments

We had a special guest in the office today -- FOOD52er Kitchen Butterfly, visiting New York from her native Nigeria, came to pay us a visit! (The weekend before several FOOD52 users met up at Eataly -- you can see Panfusine's recap of the event here.)

It wasn't until the end of her visit that she surprised us all with a set of gorgeous gifts -- we were speechless! From left to right, we have a reprint of a 1930s-era Yoruba cookbook, gorgeous placemats made from coconut fibers, grains of paradise -- which apparently cost next to nothing in Nigeria -- Kitchen Butterfly's favorite curry powder, dried chiles, ground melon seeds, and a gorgeous wooden bowl.

We're excited to make Grains of Paradise Peanut Butter Dip with the grains of paradise and Sasha (Global Table Adventure)'s Smoked Turkey Stewed in West African "Gravy"  with the ground melon seeds. Thank you, Kitchen Butterfly!

Its great to see KB highlighted in feed52. Kitchen Butterfly has been posting stories and pics of her recent US adventures on her own blog: http://www.kitchenbutterfly... . It was wonderful to get to know you at the Eataly meet-up and to continue getting to know you through the fantastic stories on your blog. I look forward to your next visit!

Oh my word, unbelievable. Thank you guys so so much for being such good teachers and a huge blessing, I had an unbelievable time and learnt a lot and now I can put faces and voices to names. And your recommendations to stop at Fishs Eddy and ABC led to some awesome finds (not at ABC though :-) ). Thanks for making my trip totally awesome, and for the book too!

It was unfortunate timing for me, I work almost every Sunday doing open houses I so wanted to go. I do hope we plan other meetups I would have loved to meet you and KB and everyone else.
