Summer Food Fights
UPDATE: The FOOD52/Saveur Market Basket Pinterest Challenge
For the next two weeks, we're hosting our own Summer Food Fights on FOOD52 -- come play along! Big prizes await.
UPDATE: We have a winner!
Congrats to Susan Rubinsky, whose Surf Shack Weekend board won our contest with Saveur.com! We all loved her choice of summery recipes, and her supplementary photos -- like the scene-setting shots of the beach, the sand-dusted conch shells, and the shed filled with fishing gear -- won us over.
Thank you to everyone who played along!
See all that gorgeous produce right there? We want you to use it. All of it. Welcome to The Food52/Saveur Market Basket Pinterest Challenge, where we want you to celebrate the Summer Food Fights -- using summer produce, of course.
All you need to do is create the virtual summer dinner party of your dreams, and then share it with us. The winner gets a big basket of supplies from Edgeware, Dreamfarm, and FullCircle (see below for just some of the goods -- they're supplies that will help you with your non-virtual market fruits and vegetables!). Plus, we'll throw in some treats from FOOD52 and Saveur. All in all, it's a $300 kitty -- not too shabby just for spending a little time playing on Pinterest (you'd be doing that anyway, right?).
Here's how it works:
- Make sure to follow both FOOD52 and Saveur Magazine on Pinterest.
- Create a new board on Pinterest with "The FOOD52/Saveur Market Basket" in the title.
- Fill your board with at least 15 pins of recipes/tabletop goods/vital tools (but don't worry -- the more pins the merrier!). At least 4 pins must be from FOOD52, and at least 4 must be from Saveur.
- Your recipes should use up as many ingredients in the market basket as possible (peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, corn, eggplant, summer squash, and tomatoes).
- All of the pins (even those not from FOOD52 or Saveur) should be hashtagged with #food52 #saveur #summerfoodfights.
- Once your pinboard is complete, enter the contest by posting a link to it in the comments section of the contest announcement on Pinterest by Wednesday, August 8 at noon EST.
-- Points for creativity, seasonality, cohesive theme -- we'll get together with Saveur and pick the party we'd most want to be invited to!
Let the pinning begin!
Sign up now and get $10 when we open.

I am new to Pinterest and wonder if I can REPIN Susan's whole board without going through each pin individually.

That function isn't available on Pinterest but hopefully they will add it in the future.

As if pinterest isn't distracting enough! :) Used the whole market basket for my Easy Peasy Summer Backyard Picnic Party. Went with local beer as well. This was really fun.

I just had the best time putting together my gluten-free virtual picnic. Maybe I will host a real one soon! Thanks for putting this contest together.

Question: do the pins have to be actual food52/saveur recipes? Or can they be articles featuring other blogs, e.g. http://www.food52.com/blog... ?

I have a question, have been working on my board on pinterest and wondered about the pins, can we present multiple options or is it supposed to be exactly what you would serve at a party.

You can present as many options as you'd like -- this is all in the name of fun! Feel free to describe the pins in the captions, too, if you'd like to make it more clear.

I have been pinning but didn't hashtag do I do that on the pin itself, sorry I am not a frequent pinner until today and am not very well versed on how to use pinterest.

I think I figured it out. Just added hashtags to the pin,

I am assuming the recipes that we have to pin from Food52 and Saveur need not be ours!!

You're right -- you can pin any recipes you like!

Umm.. Is this all the vegetables that can be featured in the pin board.. Can I use any other fresh summer produce like green garbanzos, green beans, wax beans, Cucumbers..
10 months ago brette warshaw
Brette is the Editorial Assistant of Food52.
Please feel free to use all that summer produce, too! Just include as many of the above vegetables in your pinboard as you can.

Do the Pins have to be our own photographs?? There is so much scary buzz around re-pinning third party photographs.
10 months ago brette warshaw
Brette is the Editorial Assistant of Food52.
Nope, but thanks for asking, Panfusine -- you don't have to use your own photographs! You can pull from anywhere, since Pinterest links back to where you pinned from.

Oh NO! My great moral failing! Designing my perfect picnic on pinterest may be the one thing that could totally distract me from an otherwise (deadline and panic induced) laser focus on my actual work this week. Gah! ;)
