Behind the Scenes
Too Many Cooks: Summer Produce Galore
You'll be hearing from the staff at FOOD52 every week in Too Many Cooks, our group column in which we pool our answers to questions about food, cooking, life, and more.
We ate basically everything this week, celebrating the best of summer's bounty. (Does birthday cake count as summer bounty? Let's cheat and say it does.) What have you been eating?

Amanda: Getting ready to eat cake at Addie and Walker's sixth birthday party.

Kristen: Next time you get mealy tomatoes at the greenmarket, mash them into broth for risotto, with garlic, Parmesan rind, water. Fold in sautéed zucchini at the end.

Christina: Taste the rainbow: red, yellow and orange carrots bursting at the greenmarket.

Nozlee: Amanda's Raspberry Swamp Pie, ready to bake.

Kenzi: This granola, the recipe of which was handed down to my boyfriend's mother, is worth going to Connecticut for. This same yellow pot is always magically full at the beginning of the weekend, devastatingly empty by the end.

Jennifer: Grappa cherries ready to soak until Christmas.

Stephanie: Deep-fried tea egg from Emmet Ray. It was delicious.

Rachel: Fairytale eggplants!

I got such Dansk envy from seeing this post that I just bought a 17" Dansk paella pan in turquoise on ebay.

As the designated baker of friends' birthday cakes, I'm curious as to what kind of cake you had for Addie and Walker.

I made this Tender Yellow Cake by sdebrango and iced it with a cream cheese frosting that I winged (and made too runny). http://www.food52.com/recipes...

Thanks! It's been on my list of recipes to try. And I love how the food52 staff makes it a point to cook through many of the recipes on the site.

the pie vents actually make the Swamp pie look like the tires on a Swamp buggy.

Love seeing these photos each week. Fabulous crimping and love those pie vents, Nozlee!

I know -- such precision with her pie vents. Also having major grappa cherries envy. And Kenzi, I have the same Dansk pot -- and a smaller one in robin's egg blue.

Aren't they lovely? Food tastes better out of pretty pots.
