Community Picks Recipe Testing -- Your Best Cheap Feast

March 15, 2013

It's that time again -- help us pick the contest finalists for Your Best Cheap Feast

Any Food52 member is welcome to help us test our Community Pick candidates, so go call dibs on the recipe you'd like to test that is in the list below! We'd love to see some new testers in the mix -- remember, we're accepting up to 3 testers per recipe. And, if the recipe is worthy of a Community Pick, we'll publish the best headnote, so make your notes count! Don't forget to email us your headnote (no more than 100 words) to [email protected] by next Wednesday at 5pm (EST).

Shop the Story

When you’ve figured out which recipes are calling your name, in order to sign up, all you have to do is follow the link to that recipe’s page, and on the left-hand side, you’ll see a “Test This Recipe” button. Your job is easy: just click the button, and you’ll receive a confirmation email that officially crowns you a Food52 community tester. If for some reason you decide you cannot test, simply press the button again, and your name will be removed from the list. Act fast -- this button will disappear on the Tuesday before your testing notes are due.

We'll collect your comments, name the finalists and official Community Picks and publish the best headnote for each Community Pick (with credit, of course!). If the recipe you test isn't chosen as a Community Pick, please feel free to leave your testing notes in the recipe's comments section. Constructive criticism is always encouraged!

Happy Testing!

Yes, so odd about missing steps.. I've just realized through the help of comments that my recipe entry, the Conchiglie Con Cavolfiore, seems to be missing the Cauliflower in ingredients list. The first ingredient should be be:"1 Head of Cauliflower." Thanks to those who pointed it out, and hopefully reading step one of the instructions clarified for you. Happy testing and eating! Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that the site isn't reflecting any numbers of testers chosen per recipe?

In an effort to invite more people to test recipes, we wanted to make things simpler and clearer for new users. But we definitely appreciate your feedback as we keep fine tuning this process!

Sorry to say, it doesn't make anything clearer.

I can't believe these comments have been up for a week, as I've been checking daily to see when the testing phase was happening. I got to this page today, by chance. Somehow, when one clicks on the Contest tab, then gets to the Cheap Feasts, this page is not reached in the most intuitive way, and I'm not new to Food52. Don't know how to describe this better, but I find the contests are sometimes difficult to navigate. I would have loved to test a recipe, but am going out of town, so I won't have time now. :(

The shell pasta with cauliflower doesn't list cauliflower in the ingredient list. From the recipe steps I would assume it uses a head of cauliflower

Correct- 1 head of Cauliflower should be the first ingredient. Thank you for pointing this out. I am not sure what happened. I also noted this on the comments section. Enjoy!

Sorry for the missing steps! We're addressing the issue, but if anyone sees any more instructions disappear, please contact us and we will get it fixed for you.

I just noticed a missing step on my recipe for sardine casserole, so whoever tests that should read my comment on the recipe before testing! Editors, I can't edit the recipe because it's already been submitted to a contest, but is there a way to get the missing step added back in?

Happened to me to with my pork shoulder - a step just went missing.

Interesting... I wonder if that's what happened with my Pork Sugo recipe! I could have sworn I added the 1st step to cut/dry/salt & pepper the pork, but the step is no longer there (and can't be edited during the contest).
