Author Notes

My Swedish boyfriend bought some Aquavit to celebrate midsommar, and, unsurprisingly, it was still knocking around the liquor cabinet come winter. Which led to the development of this drink, our new Christmastime favorite. The strong caraway flavor of aquavit is a bit much if you're trying to toss back shots in true Swedish fashion, but it mellows nicely in a sweet context (reminding me of the caraway in Irish soda bread). The strength and flavor of available lingonberry juice varies (we used the concentrate available at Ikea), so adjust the balance as needed. A touch of seltzer at the end is optional, but lightens it up a bit. Skål! —deensiebat

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 2 shots aquavit
  • 2 shots lingonberry juice concentrate (can substitute unsweetened cranberry juice)
  • 1 shot orange liqueur, such as triple sec
  • 1/2 lime, juiced
  • seltzer
Directions
  1. Pour the aquavit, lingonberry or cranberry juice, orange liqueur, and lime juice in a shaker with ice, and shake until well combined. Taste, adding more triple sec or lime juice depending upon the sweetness/tartness of your juice.
  2. Pour over ice into a cocktail glass with a sugared rim. Top with a bit of seltzer, if desired, stir, and enjoy.
