Christmas Sugar Cookies

My family has made these specific Christmas cookies for years. We roll them really thin, cut out Christmas shapes, and put sprinkles on them. The combination of almond and vanilla makes them awesome! —HeetlandZander

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • granulated sugar or sprinkles
Directions
  1. Mix powdered sugar, butter, vanilla extract, almond extract, and egg in large bowl.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  4. Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
  5. Grease cookie sheet lightly with shortening or cooking spray.
  6. Divide dough in half. Roll each half 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured surface.
  7. Cut into desired shapes with 2-2 1/2-inch cookie cutters. Sprinkle with granulated sugar or sprinkles.
  8. Place on cookie sheet. Bake 7-8 minutes or until edges are light brown. Watch to make sure it doesn't brown too much.
  9. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool on a wire rack.
